Kettle House Beer League and NEW KITS

The kits.... have arrived!!

We're so psyched with how they came out!  And we hope our sponsors are happy too.

Instead of heading into the woods with our new kits for their inaugural ride, we thought we'd show them off by riding through downtown Missoula to visit some of our sponsors.  I think the folks at Caffe Dolce we're surprised to see a bunch of babes in wild kits show up at dinner time :) And The Cycling House Crew happened to be there too! Perfect.

But in EVEN BIGGER NEWS:

Jeanne Bloom and Kinsey Remien raced yesterday in the Kettle House Beer Leagues on the Marshall Course!  It was their very first race, ever! And the kit's very first race, ever!  We are so so SO proud of these two girls and so so SO happy they chose to wear our kits!  They killed it and had so much fun. This is what MT Alpha is all about!  Getting awesome ladies like Jeanne and Kinsey out there, having fun, racing bikes!  Thank you, you two, for being on the team and making us so so proud! Shit yeah.

Can't wait for next wednesday!  We'll have a few more Alphas out on course!  See you then!

Skills Clinic # 2: Sam the Olympian and Robert the Slayer

Oh, I'm sorry.  Were you confused as to who MT Alpha is and what we actually do?  Was it not plainly obvious by the name of this blog?

Well, let me clarify your confusion with this picture of me ripping down a new section of trail at Marshall:

Yes.  We ride bikes.  On mountains.  And look pretty dang good doing it.

Not only that, we have Godfathers who teach us how to ride bikes better.  And we have an amazing photographer who documents our journey down technical single track, up tough switch backs and through our everyday success.

Cool.  I'm glad we cleared that up...

MT Alpha was coach by two World Class mountain bike racers two nights ago: Sam Schultz and Robert Sayler.  You might have heard of them.
Note: You'll have a chance to watch one of them at THE OLYMPICS in August!  So proud of you, Sam!

To the men reading this: I know. I know that you really wish you were a women right now so you could be an Alpha.  I know that each of you have huge man crushes on Sam and Robert.  I know that you're so jealous.
Bummer.

In an effort to make you feel a little bit more included in our greatness, here are the key take-aways from the clinic:

Sam: If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up to much space

Robert: Extend, bend and slam.

Hope that helps you guys out.

See you this weekend at Homestake XC and Disco Mountain Boogie!

Meet MT Alpha: Kinsey Remien

Did you see her at Dolce night?  yeah you did.  She looked SMOKIN' in that black dress.
Oh, which smokin' Alpha in a black dress, you say?
She was the really sweet, blond one that was always smiling,

Photo: www.iwantherjob.com
This is her! Sorry boys, she's taken.

She's a sweetheart, but don't be fooled by those beautiful, glistening white teeth and that perfect smile (thank you Clarkfork Dental).  She's going to use those things to rip you to shreds on the trail.

Seriously.
You know when you're on the starting line, scoping out the competition? And you write off the girls who look really nice and sweet?  Well, Kinsey is one of those girl who looks too nice to be mean on the trail.
But then!  BAM!  Kinsey is about to pull the ol' crocodile roll and blows girls straight out of the water, leaving them in her dust. She fast.  Real fast.  Secret fast.  Watch out ladies.

Judging her fitness and descending skills, you'd never know she's only been riding for a year.  Can you say natural talent?  MT Alpha seems to have a ton of it and Kinsey is no exception.
She once told an interviewer:

"You can’t start at the top, but if you know that’s where you belong, and work your butt off, you’ll get where you need to go."

(Yeah, thats right, she gets interviewed because she's such an awesome graphic designer and women! Amazing.)  Kinsey belongs at the top of the podium.  I can tell she she's been working like crazy to get faster on the bike.  She has yet to miss one Alpha ride and is always in the front group.  Killing it.  We are so excited to see how fast Kinsey goes this year!

She grew up in Montana but left to go to college in Washington.  When she moved back (because who can leave this beautiful state?), she landed a killer job as a graphic designer at PartnersCreative in Missoula. She builds beautiful advertisements and making businesses pretty.  She's really good at it too.
She's a good ol' Montana girl who was raised on skis.  You can tell she spends her winters shredding the backcountry because she's not afraid to let it rip down OverLook. Those descending skills sure transfered nicely for her!  I think BlackDiamond is super psyched to have Kinsey on board.  BC skier and mountain bike racer?  Heck yeah!

Look out for her on the trail.  She rides a full suspension Specialized and wears LuluLemon tanks.  Did I mention she's super stylish?

SUPER D SERIES!

What's that you say?
A SUPER D in MISSOULA this summer !?!?!?

You heard correctly! MT Alpha has joined forces with Marshall Mountain to bring you a downhill experience you will never forget.

Question #1: What is a Super D?
A super D is a cross between XC racing and downhill racing (Read: Less climbing, more descending)

Cross between Sam Schultz and Danny Hart.

Hot right!?

We all know who Sam is. For those less fortunate of you, who don't know of the other baby faced bike racing hunk, I will shed a little light: Meet Danny-

Let's not forget Sam can huck his hot meat too...
What a dreamboat.
I mean what more could you want in a man.....I mean a race?

Okay, back to the racing.

Question 2: How is the course different from the Wednesday Night Beer Leagues Course?
           Less climbing.

Less suffer fest in the 5pm 100 degree cookout heat (which we all willingly endure for the glory of the downhill and the ability to say, "I did three laps on the Pro XC course this week").

This will be a bit less Type A; a bit more hanging; and a lot of fun. You won't be racing uphill (well, not much anyway).  You'll be walking and/or soft pedaling your bike (which can be anything from a big DH bike with 72 in of travel, or your carbon 29er hardtail) up the road.  Maybe with a cold beverage (i.e. soda pop) in hand.

Question 3: Is it a mass start?
No. Starting format will be one at a time with intervals between racers. You vs. Trail. You vs. The Clock. No excuses about Heidi throwing elbows or Horan running into your wheel at the start or Jensen passing you on the uphill only to be a real donkey on the downhill. Just you and the trail.

The lovely MT Alphas will be up at Marshall with pulaskies in the next few weeks building the start to the Super D and then adding a few additional features throughout the summer. The course itself will be the same as the downhill section of the XC Course. Should be amazing.

Question 4:  What do I do with my kids while I'm racing?
We've got a kids clinic each evening of the Super D and a final kids race on the last day of the Super D.  Check back here for more information!

Get psyched Missoula!  Super D Series is going to be the hottest thing since MT Alpha hit the trails!

No preregistration!  RACE DAY REGISTRATION ONLY!

NOTE: "A Line" not mandatory for all racers (exception: BIKE DOC crew must hit it)
